Rapper, pop-punk rocker, and actor Machine Gun Kelly (legal name Colson Baker) has recently expressed interest in playing Link in the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie. It was announced not that long ago that a Legend of Zelda movie will be made; we can’t say we are too shocked by this, given how financially successful the new Super Mario Bros. movie has been.

Alongside the likes of Mario, The Legend of Zelda is considered by many one of the most beloved video game franchises in the history of the medium. Each new Zelda release features breathtaking action fantasy alongside an incredible sense of adventure. Link is the main protagonist of every Zelda game.

The latest entry in the series is 2023’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which The Game Awards recently nominated for “Game of the Year“. This upcoming Zelda movie will be directed by Maze Runner director Wes Ball; it will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda.

In a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Miyamoto provided the following: “This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films.”

He goes on to add, “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

So, where does Machine Gun Kelly come into all of this? Well, as shared by GamesRadar, via his Instagram Stories, MGK shared an announcement involving the upcoming film. Alongside an image of said announcement, he included the following text: “if I don’t play Link we have a problem”

At this time MGK has starred in a variety of films and TV shows, including comedies, dramas, and some action.

For Good Mourning, a film he directed, MGK was awarded “Worst Director” at the Golden Raspberries. When it comes to his acting, MGK has proven to be – competent. Particularly, he can be funny in his comedy work, and at times effective through his drama. But it’s tough to gauge how he’d do in an action-adventure story.

What do you think of Machine Gun Kelly playing Link in a Legend of Zelda movie? Who do you think would be perfect for the role?
