As part of Metallica‘s show in Arizona this past Saturday (September 9th), the thrash metal titans invited the Los Angeles crossover band Suicidal Tendencies to open for them.

Let alone that Suicidal Tendencies already put on a great show, longtime fans were treated to an extra special moment when former band member, and current Metallica bassist, Robert Trujillo came out for a song.

Trujillo played in Suicidal Tendencies from 1989 to 1995, contributing to the following albums: Lights…Camera…Revolution! (1990), The Art of Rebellion (1992), Still Cyco After All These Years (1993), and Suicidal for Life (1994).

In 2021, 26 years after he left the band, Robert’s son Tye Trujillo joined the crossover act as their bassist and has been performing with them ever since.

Alongside his son and former bandmates, Trujillo rocked out with Suicidal Tendencies and played their song “I Saw Your Mommy,” which is a track from the band’s self-titled debut album.

Per fan-captured footage of this performance, both father and son look like they are having an awesome time playing alongside each other. It’s also surreal to see two generations of musicians from the same family sharing the stage and playing together as part of the same band.

Below you will find the video featuring Robert and Tye Trujillo playing Suicidal Tendencies’ “I Saw Your Mommy.”

Last year, Tye got a lot of attention thanks to his incredible performance of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” in the latest season of Stranger Things.
