On this day, September 22nd, Cannibal Corpse has released its highly anticipated 16th studio album, Chaos Horrific, via Metal Blade Records.

Commemorating this release, the death metal icons treated fans to a gritty music video for the title track. Directed by the acclaimed David Brodsky and produced by Allison Woest of My Good Eye: Music Visuals, the video captures the essence of grindcore horror films. The result? A blood-tastic time, calling to mind cheapo zombie movies as viscera splatters everywhere.

This year is not just about a new album for Cannibal Corpse. It marks a staggering 35 years since they began their sonic assault on the world of death metal. Reflecting on this, guitarist Erik Rutan said in a press release, “It speaks to the work ethic and dedication that everyone has put into Cannibal Corpse. When you think about how many bands never make it a decade, let alone three plus, it’s such a testament to our creativity, determination, and loyalty.”

The band’s approach to their craft is evident in their consistent technicality and evolving songwriting. Bassist Alex Webster shares, “To me, this album feels sort of like a continuation of ‘Violence Unimagined’.” While the band maintains its technical prowess, there’s no conscious effort to overcomplicate. They let the music carve its own path, be it technical, straightforward, or a blend of the two.

Recording took place at Rutan’s Mana Studio in Florida. Erik Rutan, who has previously produced six of the band’s albums and joined as an official member in 2020, mentioned his aim to explore new dynamics and territories while remaining true to the band’s core sound.

The video’s narrative is aptly summarized by drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz, “This song is about fighting for your life from a zombie attack. An ax, a knife, a machete. Whatever it takes to kill these things.”

For those eager to witness Cannibal Corpse live, the band has announced a tour with Mayhem, Gorguts, and Blood Incantation. Don’t miss out on what promises to be a night of relentless death metal fury.
