Back in October 2022, it came as a surprise to many fans when longtime band guitarist John 5 was absent from a Rob Zombie show. Following news of his absence, some started to wonder if something had taken place between the guitarist and Zombie; one site even noted that the two artists “no longer follow each other on social media.”

However, it was soon revealed that John had exited Zombie’s band to take on the role of live guitarist in Mötley Crüe, replacing Mick Mars. In the time that has passed since that reveal, the guitarist has been actively traveling around the world with the heavy metal band. But while it seems like John has been having one hell of a time performing with Mötley Crüe, how has this career shift impacted his relationship with Zombie?

John was an integral part of Zombie’s band for 17 years – that’s a lot of time together as friends and creative partners.

In a new interview with “THAT Rocks!“, the guitarist was asked if he has had any sort of “dialogue” with his former bandmate.

John goes on to share that, in the time that has passed, he has “not had dialogue” with Zombie, but that he does miss him. Per John 5 (as transcribed by Blabbermouth):

“I have not had dialogue with Rob. And I wish I would. I miss talking to him. And the [Rob Zombie] band sounds great and the show looks awesome and I really hope to talk to him soon… I miss talking to Rob. And I know he is doing great. But I hope we connect soon.”

In a different interview from earlier this year, John talked about how Zombie reacted to the news of him wanting to leave the band and join Mötley Crüe. To find out what the horror icon and frontman had to say, follow this link here.

If you’ve had the chance to see Rob Zombie live lately, what do you think of his band without John 5? Vice versa, if you’ve had the chance to see Mötley Crüe, what do you think of them live with the guitarist?
