For the first time in their 17-year-long career, one of Ghost‘s songs has been certified platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Among their plethora of incredible tracks, this achievement belongs to Ghost’s “Mary on a Cross.”

Released back in 2019, “Mary on a Cross” is a track from the Swedish band’s two-song EP titled Seven Inches of Satanic Panic; the other track on that EP is “Kiss the Go-Goat.”

Back in 2022, the Ghost song experienced a massive boost in popularity and streams after making its way around the interwebs as part of a Stranger Things-related TikTok video.

Writing about the track’s booming popularity at that time, Billboard wrote that the song “debuts at No. 90 with 6 million U.S. streams (up 7%) and 1,000 downloads sold in the Sept. 9-15 tracking week, according to Luminate.”

“Mary on a Cross” also represents Ghost’s first song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. At the time of this writing, the track has been streamed over 72,000 times on YouTube, and over 421,000 times on Spotify.

We congratulate Ghost on this absolutely awesome achievement. If you somehow have not heard the delightfully enchanting “Mary on a Cross,” you can check out the tune for yourself below.

In other Ghost-related news, band mastermind Tobias Forge recently lamented the failure of his old death metal band. Prior to his days fronting Ghost, Forge played guitar and sang in a band called Repugnant. Forge had some big hopes for the act, but unfortunately, life had other plans for him. Along with “Mary on a Cross,” another Ghost song you should totally check out is their Shakespears Sister’s cover: “Stay.” For their recording of this track, Ghost teamed up with Conjuring and Insidious actor Patrick Wilson.
