As an unparalleled heat wave continues to sweep portions of the country, Danzig have become the latest act to be forced into canceling or postponing an upcoming date in an affected area.
In a statement posted to social media on Thursday (Aug. 31st), Danzig announced that they’ve had to cancel their Houston concert at White Oak Music Hall (which is an outdoor venue) on Sept. 3rd due to the excessive heat in that part of the state.
“Due to the ongoing heatwave, and out of concern for our crew and fans, we are forced to cancel our outdoor show in Houston this Sunday Sept. 3,” a post on the official Danzig Facebook page explains. “We hope to make it back as soon as possible. Refunds will be issued at point of purchase.”
The iconic metal band, who are performing the classic self-titled Danzig album in its entirety throughout the tour, will still play their scheduled gig in San Antonio tonight before picking back up at the Roxy Theatre in Atlanta a few days later in the week on September 6th.
Danzig was previously forced to cancel two earlier shows in the tour (Aug. 25th in Las Vegas and Aug. 26th in Norco, California) due to a nationwide tour bus shortage. Make-up dates for those concerts have now been scheduled for Sept. 22nd (Las Vegas) and Sept. 23rd (Ontario, California).
As the summer of 2023 goes down in history as the hottest on record to date, Danzig’s heat-related cancellation is hardly an anomaly in the touring world. Rapper 50 Cent postponed his scheduled Phoenix, Arizona performance on August 29th, as the outside temperature soared above 116 degrees.
