For those Blink-182 fans who may have been watching a recent baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the San Francisco Padres, it must’ve been a hell of a surprise to hear the announcers get into a whole conversation about the pop-punk band.
At one point during this game (which took place on August 15th), announcers Kevin Brown and Ben McDonald got into quite the chat about Blink-182, with said chat taking place over the broadcast of the game.
As to how the band even came up during this time while the announcers are talking about the Orioles and Padres – that we don’t know.
A video clip featuring this conversation has been uploaded onto X/Twitter, and at the start of it Brown says, “Don’t tell me you don’t know Blink-182.” McDonald then replies (as transcribed by Loudwire):
“I’ll be honest. Never heard of Blink-182,” adding “It sounds like a fighter jet to me.”
When McDonald says he might be aware of the band’s music, Brown attempts to sing the band’s hit, “All The Small Things.” Brown then mentions that “Tom DeLonge is at a lot of Padres baseball games.” But even after singing the song and sharing that DeLonge attends Padres games, McDonald is still not familiar with the band.
However, Brown goes on to say that “Tom has this very distinct nasally voice,” and then impersonating the Blink-182 vocalist, Brown sings lyrics from the band’s song “I Miss You.” It’s with his impression of DeLonge’s voice that McDonald finally understands who his colleague is referring to.
Let alone that this conversation is hilarious, it’s also quite wholesome.
We are glad that someone was able to get a video recording of these baseball announcers talking about Blink-182 because now you have the chance to hear their conversation for yourself.
