Actor Jason Momoa’s passion for heavy metal is palpable and contagious, and it was on display in a big way in Los Angeles, California last night.
Whether he’s attending concerts, posting videos jamming to metal tunes, or even befriending icons from the scene, Momoa’s enthusiasm is evident. His love for bands like Slayer, Metallica, and Black Sabbath isn’t just a passing phase; it’s a core aspect of his personality. He often cites the genre as an influence not just in his personal life, but in his professional roles, channeling that raw, primal energy into his performances. He even once cited Tool’s ‘Sober’ as the reason he picked up the bass guitar:
“We were on the set of Aquaman. I always have instruments on the set, so my son was playing drums and my daughter was playing guitar. It was my assistant’s birthday, and she really loves Tool, so I borrowed a bass from my buddy and we all played ‘Sober‘ for her. Right then, my passion for bass really exploded. The moment I put it on, I could just feel the connection – and it was all over.”
All that’s to say, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to see all the videos surfacing today of the actor hitting the ‘ol mosh pit during Pantera’s set in California last night.
This actually isn’t the first time that Momoa has interacted at a big metal show. A few years back during one of Slayer’s final shows, the Aquaman star (and his two kids) joined opener Philip H. Anselmo onstage to help the frontman throw down on the classic Pantera track “This Love.”
As he said at the time: “Going on stage and yelling love love LOVE with my baby boy and pantera. aka @philiphanselmo and the illegals my mind was blown FUCKIN BLOWN. i was living out my childhood dreams. i am so thankful for those moments shared with dear friends and my babies.”
