Finally, after nine years, the Arizona death metal band Job For A Cowboy is back!
The death metal outfit first made a name for themselves in 2005 with the release of their Doom EP, their song “Entombment of a Machine” blazing across social media. While the band is considered part of the deathcore boom of the early aughts, their sound has evolved with each new record, the act becoming a remarkable force of technical death metal.
Then, after the release of their brilliant 2014 record Sun Eater – the band went silent. Since that record’s release, several of the band members have taken part in other projects, but there’s been little to no word regarding Job For A Cowboy’s future. From time to time, the band would drop small teases on their social media alluding to them working on new material. Earlier this year, it was announced that Job For A Cowboy will be taking part in this year’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival.
But finally, after all the waiting, Job For A Cowboy has just released their first new song in nine years, titled “The Agony Seeping Storm.” As noted by the band and Metal Blade Records, this track provides a taste of what Job For A Cowboy’s upcoming concept album is like.
Regarding the new song, Job For A Cowboy singer Jonny Davy provides the following statement:
“‘The Agony Seeping Storm’ gives a slice of our upcoming concept record. Regarding the video, the band collaborated extensively with director K. Hunter Lumar (Digital Mile), while our bassist, Nick Schendzielos, co-directed. The concept was inspired by a close friend who embarked on a relentless quest for profound enlightenment through the incessant abuse of hallucinogenic drugs. However, as they delved deeper into their religious-like experimentation they began exhibiting symptoms of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. They came to believe that they could access an alternate, esoteric reality through hallucinogenic intoxication, where they encountered gnostic and biblical figures and imagery. These songs reflect their thoughts, ideas, and experiences.”
