Along with the likes of Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, Crowbar guitarist and vocalist Kirk Windstein is in complete awe of the newly reformed Pantera. Featuring original members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown, along with new additions Charlie Benante and Zakk Wylde, Pantera has been hitting the road hard throughout 2o23.
While chatting recently with Bloodstock TV, Windstein gushed about how amazed he is by Pantera’s recent performances. Among the points he brings up, the Crowbar frontman shares that he’s “so happy” for Anselmo and Brown, and that when he had the chance to play with the band in Poland, the experience was “amazing.”
Regarding his views on the newly reformed Pantera, Windstein shares the following (as transcribed by Blabbermouth):
“I’m so happy for [Philip] and Rex. I really am. It’s fantastic. It’s huge. I think it’s even bigger… Maybe they knew it would get this big. I really didn’t, but God, I’m happy for ’em. We played with ’em in Poland back in the beginning of June, and it was just amazing… So I’m so happy for ’em. I really am. I told Philip and Rex, I’m, like, ‘You get a second chance, second shot at doing what should have happened with the brothers had they not passed away.’ But they’re doing it for the right reasons and, boy, they’re doing it at the top of their game. The production, everything is amazing. Musicianship-wise, Pantera was one of the best heavy metal bands ever with Dime and Vinnie. But with Zakk, look, he might not play every note like Dime, but it’s not his style… He’s doing the signature solos, like the stuff everybody hums, everybody sings, but he’s throwing in his own stuff too, which it should be that way.”
