Given some mishaps they have experienced recently, the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden may want to consider removing gong-smashing from future shows of theirs.

During an Iron Maiden show that took place on Friday, July 7th, band frontman Bruce Dickinson was smashing a gong when, all of a sudden, his mallet broke. Completely surprised by the broken mallet, the singer took the instrument and played around with it in a rather interesting manner.

However, this is not the only gong-related mishap that Iron Maiden has experienced. During another somewhat recent show of theirs, a gong that Dickinson was smashing ended up falling down and hitting the band’s drummer, Nicko McBrain.

Per fan-captured footage of this moment, which you can view below, you will see a gong hanging just a little above and behind McBrain’s head. Dickinson is above hitting the gong when suddenly, said gong comes undone and hits McBrain.

But even as he is hit with the gong, the drummer remains focused on his performance. We hope McBrain is doing okay and that this hit was nothing serious.

McBrain is an extraordinary drummer and has been playing with Iron Maiden since 1982. You can check out this recent incident involving McBrain and the gong for yourself via the video below.

Speaking of Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain, did you know that he once lost a drum battle to a children’s puppet? You can learn more and check out footage of this drum battle via this link here.
