Emo and metal-influenced rapper Lil Uzi Vert turned a bunch of heads last week when he dropped a very metal-influenced new album called Pink Tape.

Featuring the likes of Bring Me The Horizon and BABYMETAL, the record also features Uzi covering the System of a Down Toxicity classic, ‘Chop Suey!’

As we wrote last week when it dropped, Uzi takes the original SOAD track instrumentation and gives it his own take. Straight up, it’s bound to polarize fans [update: it has!], though we’re down for it. Uzi layers his voice over the song in multiple ways with different levels of autotune and adds addendum lyrics into it. It’s hard to deny he’s having a good-ass time on the track.

Serj Tankian is clearly feeling it, too, as he took to his Facebook page yesterday to give it some love and exposure.

Per his post: “Covers are always the biggest compliment to artists and songwriters.”

While brief and to the point, Tankian clearly wouldn’t have pointed fans toward the song if he wasn’t feeling it.

Tankian wouldn’t be the first member of System of a Down to respond like a gentleman to other non-traditional SOAD covers. At the height of metal’s war with Machine Gun Kelly, System guitarist Daron Malakian threw some public love to a very challenged version of MGK attempting to do ‘Aerials.’

“I don’t know much about @machinegunkelly, it’s always an honor when someone covers your song, so I can’t hate the guy for giving it a shot.”

If you haven’t heard the track yet, give a listen to Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Chop Suey!’ cover below, and you can check out the whole album here.
