Vania Cavalera, the mother of Max and Igor Cavalera, has passed away; she was 80 years old at the time of her death.

News of Vania’s passing comes from the social media accounts for Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy.

Per the statement that has been released on these social media accounts, the following message has been provided:

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our matriarch Vania Cavalera. Vania’s greatest joy in life was raising and loving her three children Max, Iggor, and Kira, and being Vovó to her fourteen grandchildren.

“Our family asks for privacy during this difficult time of grief and as we honor our mother’s wishes and her legacy by continuing to celebrate her 80-year-long journey of love, strength, spirituality and metal.”

We send our condolences to the Cavalera family during this heartbreaking and difficult time.

During a past conversation we had with Max Cavalera, the Soulfly frontman spoke about how much he enjoys touring alongside his family. Regarding a tour he was on with his family last year, Cavalera shared: “The bus was pretty much family. I had my brother in the front lounge, painting all day long. He paints drumheads and we hang out a lot. My wife tours with us. My son Richie, from Incite, he sells shirts and is a great merch seller.”

Speaking about what the atmosphere was like while being on tour with his family, the frontman added:

“I guess [the atmosphere is] less sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll, but more fun in a way. [We watch the] Eric Andre Show after gigs – that’s all we watch and laugh our asses off. I put on my favorite [movies],  Dumb & Dumber and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I got everybody excited and watching them.”
