Some in the metal community hope that there’s even the slightest chance that, maybe one day, the Huntington Park, California band Slayer will reunite. However, according to Exodus guitarist Gary Holt, he believes that “the band’s ended.” That said, if there ever were to be a return, Holt says he is down to take part in it.
It was during a recent guitar clinic Holt was holding with ESP that he was asked about a possible Slayer reunion. Although he is down to take part in a reunion, Holt believes Slayer is done.
Regarding if he thinks a Slayer reunion will ever happen, Holt says (as transcribed by Blabbermouth):
“Ah, man. You’ve gotta talk to other people. That’s outta my pay grade. Look, if anybody ever asked me to do it, of course I’d be down to do it. But I don’t think it’s ever gonna happen. I think the band’s ended. Unlike all the other farewell tours that started five years ago and are still continuing, I think this one’s over.”
At another point during the clinic, the Exodus guitarist is asked what it was like to be on the road with Slayer for their farewell tour. Speaking about that experience, Holt says:
“It was totally fun. I mean, it was the final, last-ever tour. It was a good time. You tried not to let it get weird on you, as far as, like, ‘This is it.’ I never really thought about it ending until the last final of the two shows. It kind of dawned on me. But that was a good one. I’ll remember that tour forever. It was fucking rad.”
Back in May, former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo also commented on whether or not he would be down to take part in a band reunion. Do you hold out hope that one day there could be some kind of Slayer reunion?
And speaking of the thrash legends, we recently named one of their album covers as one of the most offensive metal album covers of all time. We have also ranked the band’s discography.
