Fans attending Mötley Crüe‘s performance at Hellfest a few days ago were surprised when all of a sudden Machine Gun Kelly appeared on stage and started rocking out with the band.

While some may find it random to see MGK and Mötley Crüe on stage together, it actually makes sense given that the pop-punk artist and heavy metal act have worked together in the past.

Machine Gun Kelly (legal name Colson Baker), played band drummer Tommy Lee in the movie adaptation of the band’s biography, The Dirt. “The Dirt” is also one of four songs the band recorded for the movie.

Per the footage you will find below, at one point during the band’s June 16th Hellfest performance, Mötley Crüe invited Machine Gun Kelly to come out on stage and rock out to “The Dirt” with them.

So what is it like to hear Machine Gun Kelly perform alongside Mötley Crüe? Well… you can judge the performance for yourself by checking out the fan-captured footage below.

Speaking of MGK, back in May, Slipknot singer Corey Taylor spoke about his past beef with the pop-punk artist, saying that he believes “ It’s one of those things where he and I will probably never be friends, but I’m sure we can both respect each other for what we do and what we’ve done and just move on.”
