Even though the band has been retired for a few years now, many metalheads would love to hear something from Slayer, including Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo.

While taking part in a conversation with Alfa 91.3 FM, Trujillo was asked what bands he would love to hear cover songs from Metallica’s newest album, 72 Seasons. In his reply to this, the bassist ends up mentioning how he would love to hear Slayer cover a particular song from the album.

Which song does he want to hear Slayer cover from 72 Seasons? Well, per Trujillo himself (as transcribed by MetalSucks):

“What would be a really powerful song? I mean, I would love to hear, like, . . . this is gonna sound crazy. What if ’72 Seasons’ was covered by Slayer? I mean, that would be pretty cool [laughs]. You know?

“No one would expect that, but I would love it. ‘Cause I always feel like . . . some people say there’s a competition [between us]. Maybe it’s because I came into the band later, [but] I view it as more as two signature sort of icon powerhouses, you know, that had this energy back in the early ’80s, you know? Really strong. But, like, what if, what if the classic Slayer lineup covered a song like ’72 Seasons’? That would be pretty cool.”

What do you make of Trujillo’s idea of Slayer covering “72 Seasons”? Do you think that would sound badass, or is there another song from the album you’d want to hear Slayer cover?

And when it comes to the Big Four, who is your favorite? And how would you rank the bands?
