A new federal indictment details charges in relation to Donald Trump’s handling of classified government documents after leaving the White House.
A section of the 44-page indictment that lists the 37 felony counts against the former president jogged the memory of several Twitter users. As the indictment reads: “In August or September 2021, at The Bedminster Club, Trump showed a representative of his political action committee who did not possess a security clearance a classified map related to a military operation.” The wording bears a striking similarity to a statement Kid Rock made during an interview with conservative pundit Tucker Carlson.
As Kid Rock told the Fox News Anchor: “We’re looking at maps and s—, and I’m like, ‘Am I supposed to be in on this s—? I make dirty records sometimes. ‘What do you think we should do about North Korea?’ I’m like, ‘What? I don’t think I’m qualified to answer this.’”
It has yet to be confirmed whether or not the section of the indictment is in reference to Kid Rock’s interview.
Made public on June 9th, the indictment filed against the former president includes 31 counts of willful retention of classified documents, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one count of withholding a document or record, one count of corruptly concealing a document or record, one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation, one count of scheme to conceal and one count of making false statements and representations.
Just a few hours after the indictment was handed down, a pair of lawyers for Donald Trump abruptly resigned from his defense team. Attorneys Jim Trusty and John Rowley announced their departure in a statement.
Donald Trump is summoned to appear in court for an arraignment on June 13. The former president could face up to 100 years in prison if convicted on all seven charges.
