Every once and a while a vocalist is bound to make a mistake or get tripped up on a vocal delivery – shit happens. But among those goofs, there are those times when an artist finds themselves in a cringe-inducing moment.

Perhaps they can’t keep up with their own song, perhaps they themselves are not singing, but their voice is still playing over the PA, or maybe they sound like a sock puppet (e.g., Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil).

With that in mind, we decided to scour the internet and track down some of the cringest and messiest vocal mishaps we could find. Strap yourself in and prepare to laugh your ass off: Here are 10 goofy and cringe vocal slip-ups.

Jonathan Davis falls, vocals are still playing

It must be awfully embarrassing to be a singer performing for a crowd – folks watching your every move – but then you fall, and while you aren’t singing, your voice can still be heard over the PA. Such an unfortunate moment happened to Korn‘s Jonathan Davis, who took a fall during the band’s song “Coming Undone,” and while he wasn’t singing into his microphone, the crowd still heard his voice “singing.”

Serj Tankian can’t keep up with his own song

On some System of a Down songs, Serj Tankian can sing and scream with incredible speed – but that speediness doesn’t always translate well live. During a 2013 performance of the System of a Down song “I-E-A-I-A-I-O,” Tankian found himself struggling to keep up with how fast the song’s lyrics are meant to be delivered. He doesn’t let this get to him though and has himself a good laugh.

Maynard James Keenan lashes out after vocal mishap

But whereas singers like Tankian are able to have a good laugh and shrug off goofs, some artists let shit get to them. Take Tool‘s Maynard James Keenan – during a past performance, he got so upset messing up a vocal performance that he slammed his microphone down and started walking away from the stage.

Cringe Oli Sykes vocal crack

While Bring Me the Horizon‘s Oli Sykes is known as a talented vocalist, he’s had his fair share of rough moments when it comes to holding a scream together. Take the footage below for example – during a performance from years ago, Sykes is seen pacing back and forth screaming to a crowd; he’s holding it together for a while, but then, as he goes to let out a high-pitched scream, his voice ends up cracking big time (sounding quite goofy).

Vince Neil going off like a Muppet

Yeah of course we’re going to bring up Vince Neil again. It’s surreal hearing Neil sing nowadays – back in the ’80s, he was one of the most iconic voices in heavy metal. While he’s still able to hit soaring high notes today, he does so in quite a comical manner. Below you’ll find a hilarious edit where someone has attempted to translate what Neil is saying while singing “Kickstart My Heart” – guaranteed you’ll bust a gut laughing.

Oh God Axl Rose, why do you sound like that?

Another legendary metal vocalist whose voice has aged somewhat awkwardly is Guns N’ Roses‘ Axl Rose. Much like Neil, you can still hear the frontman hit awesome highs, but… attempting to keep up that quality for extended periods of time appears to be somewhat difficult.

Asking Alexandria‘s Danny Worsnop is not having a great time

There is messing up a song because you’re tired or you’ve had a rough day, and then there’s messing up a song because you’re quite intoxicated. Per the footage below, you can see that Asking Alexandria’s Danny Worsnop struggles to perform due to how drunk he is; his sloppiness is quite noticeable and makes for one hell of a scene.

Not one of Paul Stanley‘s finest moments

It’s tough to tell what’s going on with KISS‘ Paul Stanley during this performance – is he tired? Is he in a bad mood? Regardless, during this 2018 performance of “Love Gun,” Stanley provides one of the most lackluster vocal performances he’s ever given.

Is Mastodon‘s Brent Hinds also a Muppet?

Or a kitten (according to the individual who uploaded this video). Regardless, Brent Hinds is channeling some sort of cartoonish quality through his voice during this past Mastodon show, and he sounds hilarious. Thankfully, Mastodon’s shows have only gotten better with time, and they now consistently deliver some of the best sets you can see.

Every Marilyn Manson performance since 2009 on

While the shock-rocker used to have a voice that really captivated audiences, the quality of Marilyn Manson’s voice has certainly… declined some. In the video below pertaining to a 2019 performance at Astroworld, Manson’s voice wavers in quality as he attempts to sing “The Beautiful People.” Rather than deliver a striking performance, Manson offers a sonic quality that is as potent as aged milk.
