We did not expect to wake up today and find out that professional skateboarder Tony Hawk teamed up with a bunch of rockers to cover a Nine Inch Nails song – but here we are.

Over on the YouTube channel Mikey And His Uke, a video has been uploaded featuring Hawk covering the Nine Inch Nails song “Wish.” Joining Hawk are former members of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Every Time I Die, as well as members of The Bronx, stormylovechild, and Fairmounts.

“Wish” was released in 1992 and is a track from Nine Inch Nail’s EP Broken.

So, when it comes to this group, what role does Hawk play? Is he jamming out on the guitar? Hammering at the drums?

Nope, the skateboarder actually takes on the role of vocalist. But how does Hawk fair as a vocalist while covering Nine Inch Nails?

Well, to be frank, he sounds awesome. Although Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has such an iconic voice, Hawk does a decent job projecting the essence of Reznor’s vocals. Also worth noting, in the video pertaining to this performance, Hawk provides his vocals while skateboarding.

Another interesting visual component of the performance is how Ben Weinman (formerly of The Dillinger Escape Plan) is playing guitar in what appears to be a shed and is surrounded by pigs.

As a whole, this performance of Nine Inch Nail’s “Wish” is fantastic. Below, you can check out that performance featuring skateboarder Tony Hawk for yourself. Perhaps Hawk should consider a side gig as a singer, for this is not the first time he has covered heavy music.

Last year, Hawk got up on stage with the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater cover band “The 900″ and performed alongside them. You can find footage of that performance by following the link below the video.
