The Foo Fighters will be hitting the road soon for a plethora of tour dates, and we now know that joining them as their live drummer is Josh Freese. He replaces the late Taylor Hawkins, who passed away last year and had been with the Foo Fighters since 1997.

As reported by Consequence, this reveal was made during the Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts pre-tour livestream.

Before Freese was officially revealed as the Foo Fighters’ live drummer, there was a comedic buildup featuring several other iconic drummers. As the Foo Fighters are chatting with one another, Tool‘s Danny Carey, Red Hot Chili PeppersChad Smith, and Mötley Crüe‘s Tommy Lee all popped in to say hi at various points during the bit; each drummer served as a tease, building up anticipation around who the band’s new member may be. Eventually, Freese appeared and was officially confirmed as the band’s live drummer for their upcoming shows.

Freese is a session drummer who, throughout his career, has worked with a number of incredible bands, such as the Vandals, Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, and Weezer (just to name a few).

Freese is super talented and it’ll be awesome to see him perform with the Foo Fighters.

At the time of this writing, there is no confirmation as to who took on the role of drummer for the band’s new album, But Here We Are.

Perhaps an announcement regarding that position will be shared in the near future.
