As reported by AL.com, an upcoming show that Nugent was to perform in Birmingham, Alabama has been canceled.
It was announced recently that Nugent was going to play at Avondale Brewing Co. on July 18th as part of his upcoming farewell tour; but when Avondale Brewing posted the news of this upcoming show on social media, many users responded with backlash and negative comments.
Per AL.com, they say that users spoke out against Nugent playing the venue, with a number of them voicing disdain for the rocker’s political views. Nugent has never been shy when it comes to sharing his political stances, which are often right-leaning and bigoted.
Yesterday, May 4th, in response to the public backlash, Avondale Brewing announced that the Ted Nugent show is canceled; the venue has also removed its social media posts regarding the show.
Although the posts have been deleted, AL.com was able to note some of the comments written about the show. One comment posted by a user reads “Do better! To bring this transphobic individual into our diverse neighborhood is a travesty.” Another user wrote, “This is incredibly disappointing. Ted Nugent spews lies and hatred and you are giving him a platform. Shame on you.”
In response to the public protest, Avondale Brewing shared the following statement via their Instagram Stories:
“We have heard the concerns of the Avondale community, which is so important to us, and in conjunction with our partners, have taken the necessary steps to cancel the Ted Nugent concert scheduled for July 18.”
Could other upcoming Ted Nugent shows play out in a similar manner? Here’s hoping.
