It’s been a little over a year since the tragic passing of legendary Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
In that time, the band and their fans have gone through an emotional rollercoaster. Out of all the darkness, one bittersweet bright moment came when Taylor’s teenage son Shane sat in with his father’s band last September for a rendition of their classic, “My Hero.”
Having recently made their return to the stage, Foo Fighters performed their second comeback show last Friday, May 26, at the Boston Calling Festival.
The famed rock group has been touring with esteemed session drummer Josh Freese behind the kit, while band leader (and legendary drummer in his own right, to say the very least) Dave Grohl handled percussion in the studio on their upcoming album.
Freese might be their drummer, but for their Boston Calling gig they pulled out the big guns with an extremely special guest.
Shane Hawkins yet again joined the Foo Fighters onstage to play drums on a powerful rendition of “I’ll Stick Around”, an early hit song off of their 1995 self-titled debut.
Dave Grohl and the boys have a number of North American concerts coming up, with hints of a European tour later on.
The Foo Fighters will release their new album But Here We Are next Friday, June 2.
