Today Ghost has released their brand new Phantomime EP, which consists of five covers. Among the tracks on the EP is a cover of Iron Maiden‘s “Phantom of the Opera,” and honestly, Ghost’s version sounds amazing.
However, there are some folks who flat out don’t like the band’s cover of the song, with one of those individuals being former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno (who sang the original 1980 version of “Phantom of the Opera”).
On his Facebook page, Di’Anno shared his thoughts on Ghost’s cover of the Iron Maiden song (his post has since been deleted, but The Metal Voice was able to obtain a screenshot of the post before it was taken down).
Regarding Ghost’s cover, the former Iron Maiden singer shared the following:
“Everyone asking my opinion on the Ghost cover of phantom well not that it matters but it fkn sucks.”
Below you will find the original track, as well as Ghost’s cover of “Phantom of the Opera.”
Which version do you think is better? Or do you think both versions are good?
