The other day it was officially confirmed that the Foo Fighters’ new live drummer is none other than Josh Freese. He is a talented session drummer who has played with several incredible bands, such as the Vandals, Guns N’ Roses and Nine Inch Nails.

Freese will be joining the band for all their upcoming tour dates this year, but while he has been confirmed as their live drummer, who recorded the drums for the Foo Fighters’ new album But Here We Are? Well, we actually know who it is now… it’s Dave Grohl.

As reported by Kerrang!, at one point during the Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts pre-tour livestream, the band played a currently unreleased song titled “Nothing At All.”

After the band wrapped up the song, Freese and Grohl were shown talking with one another, with Freese saying to the latter (as transcribed by Kerrang!): “When you explained the beat on the record and you’re like, ‘I think I played it with one hand,’ and I’m kinda doing the same thing. It feels good and sounds cool, you know?”

In response, Grohl said: “It was unintentional. I did it when I demoed it at my house, and I’d just woken up and I was tired. But on the shitty drum set at my house, it just kinda sounded better. You’re not hitting the hi-hat and the snare at the same time, so it sort of has more space.”

While he’s known as a great guitarist and singer, Grohl is also an amazingly talented drummer (one only needs to revisit his work with  Nirvana to experience his awesome drum skills). It’ll be great to hear more of his drumming on the new Foo Fighters album when it comes out on June 2nd.

How do you feel about Grohl recording drums for the new album?
