Lewis Black is one of the funniest comedians working today, and as part of a recent show of his, he not only walked out to a Metallica song, he also referenced it in a joke.

In Black’s new comedy special “Tragically, I Need You,” the comedian kicks things off by playing Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” for his audience. The crowd cheers as he takes to the stage, but the comedian thinks the audience is a tad too excited.

Black then goes on to jokingly poke fun at the crowd’s cheer, speaking to how a song like Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” sets a high bar of sorts for what is to come.

Playfully referring to the Metallica song, Black says (as transcribed by Loudwire):

“I think that music, I mean it’s great, but it’s over the top. It creates an expectation in this room. You hear this and you get fucking pumped and you think, ‘What’s gonna come out?’ Jugglers and sword swallowers and fire eaters and gymnasts and fucking wild animals even, jaguars and tigers and … and then just one aging Jew wanders on the stage.”

Speaking of comedians and heavy metal, did you know that Bill Burr is a big Meshuggah and Tool fan? Last year, the comedian shared a story involving Tool drummer Danny Carey being blown away by Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake. To learn more about this story, follow the link below.
