This past March 27th, Machine Head‘s The Blackening celebrated its 16th anniversary. Not only is The Blackening an amazing thrash metal album, but it is also considered one of the greatest metal albums, period.
To celebrate this awesome landmark, Robb Flynn and Jared MacEachern uploaded a video to YouTube that features them playing through the entirety of the album.
Per the description associated with the video:
“Join the boyz as they rip through ‘The Blackening’ to mark its sixteenth anniversary! All tracks from this bona fide classic album are given the Electric Happy Hour treatment, starting with ‘Clenching the Fists of Dissent’ through to epic closer ‘A Farewell to Arms’ and everything in between.”
If you are interested in watching Flynn and MacEachern perform all of The Blackening, you can do so via the video below. It is surreal to realize that The Blackening is 16 years old. Among Machine Head’s discography, where do you rank this record?
We recently wrote about the 10 greatest thrash metal albums of all time, and among the records we wrote about, we included The Blackening. Below is what we had to say about the record, but if you want to check out the full feature, you can do so by following the link below the video.
“Machine Head’s sixth studio album would not only cement them as one of metal’s biggest acts but also represented a major step forward for the thrash genre. The Blackening had such a tremendous impact upon its release that it astounded the metal community as a whole (not just the thrash metal crowd).
“Throughout the record, frontman Robb Flynn and the band offer audiences a jaw-dropping collection of songs that come together to present one of thrash’s most rage-exuding albums ever.”
