It’s been a long time, and metalcore mainstays Atreyu have persevered through thick and thin. Undeterred by lineup changes and all of the complexities that come with it, the California band continually manage to reinvent and reinvigorate themselves. Much like the legendary character they take their name after, nothing can keep Atreyu down.
The band have just announced a new EP titled The Hope Of A Spark along with a slew of tour dates. In anticipation of the new release, Atreyu have graced us with their new single and video, “Watch Me Burn”. The video was directed by While She Sleeps bassist Aaran McKenzie and features English actor Leigh Gill (Joker, Game of Thrones, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them).
Atreyu compares the single to a phoenix rising. Bassist Marc ‘Porter’ McKnight comments “To me it’s a song about being cleansed by fire. Whatever it is that’s bringing you down and holding you back, burn it down. Use it, learn from it, move on, and grow. That thing does not deserve you and you don’t deserve it.”
The Hope Of A Spark is intended to mark the beginning of a new chapter in the band’s Neverending Story (see what I did there?)
Producer John Feldmann has this to say about the EP: “The overarching concept is essentially about the seasons of life. Everyone goes through the same things, the ups, and downs of life. The emphasis really is the importance of at least respecting those, and finding the positives and the lessons from even your lowest moments.”
Atreyu’s The Hope of a Spark tour begins on April 27 in Sacramento at Ace of Spades.
