Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello has been part of many collaborations throughout his career. One of those collabs happens to involve rapper Post Malone, and when it comes to the song the two made together, Morello thinks it could be as big as the legendary Michael Jackson song “Beat It.”
During a recent conversation with Guitar World, Morello reflected on this past collaboration with Malone, mentioning how he thinks the track has some major potential. Per Morello:
“We worked out a pretty sick jam. To me [it] felt like it could be, for him, like his Beat It, y’know, with Michael Jackson, a big pop star, paired with Eddie Van Halen and made something that no-one had expected. ‘This could be your Beat It, dude!’ He just won’t finish the song.”
The Rage Against the Machine guitarist then goes on to talk about his and Malone’s time in the studio together, speaking to how the two kicked back with some brews and had fun chilling with one another.
“We went into the studio together one night. I had heard that he was a fan of rock and so I went by, and he is a lovely dude. First of all, he’s just a lovely, lovely person. He is trippy. You know how some people have guitar techs, or drum techs, he had a Coors Light tech! [Laughs] There was a guy whose sole job apparently was just make sure there is a stack of cold Coors Light… It took about four hours of sitting around with Coors Light before we did any recording.”
So at this point, you may be asking yourself: “So where the hell is this song?”
Well, it seems that the release of this song is in the hands of Post Malone, and Morello shares that whenever he sees the rapper, he tries pushing him to release the track.
“He’s still a lovely dude. I see him from time to time and I’m like, ‘You’re still dropping the ball on that one.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, man, I’m gonna do that.’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’ [Laughs]. It’s sick!”
A Post Malone x Tom Morello collab sounds fucking awesome. Malone has proven himself to be quite the metalhead, and it will be great to hear this song once it’s finally released.
