While the band formed back in 2016, Sleep Token has been experiencing a major boost in popularity more recently. In fact, as noted by Spotify, the progressive alternative metal band currently has multiple songs going viral right now.
Over on Spotify’s Viral 50 – USA, three of the band’s most recent songs are on the chart; each of these three singles didn’t come out too long ago, and yet, a LOT of folks have been streaming them.
At the time of this writing, “The Summoning” is in sixth place (and it has been streamed over 14 million times already); “Granite” is in 19th place (and it has been streamed over 5 million times); in 27th place is “Aqua Regia” (which has been streamed over 4 million times).
For some odd reason, the band’s new song “Chokehold” does not appear on the USA viral list, even though it has been streamed over 6 million times.
Last year Metallica experienced a big boost in popularity thanks to “Master of Puppets” appearing in Netflix’s Stranger Things; but that is also Metallica – Sleep Token is certainly a much relatively smaller band, and they have three songs going super viral right now. That is fascinating and incredibly awesome for metal.
Over the past few years though, metal has slowly been working its way into the mainstream; thanks to the likes of Sleep Token, Turnstile, and even Bring Me the Horizon, more folks who have never heard metal before are now being introduced to the genre.
It is super awesome to see Sleep Token experience so much success from these singles alone, and it will be even more awesome to hear their upcoming album when it is released in May.
