Guitarist Jeff Young played in Megadeth from 1987 to 1989, his work appearing on the band’s 1988 studio album So Far, So Good… So What!.

Currently, Young performs in the metal act Kings of Thrash, alongside ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson and another ex-Megadeth guitarist, Chris Poland. Through this band, Young, Ellefson, and Poland perform classic Megadeth songs from the 1980s.

Young recently took part in an interview with MisplacedStaws.com where he talked about his past work with Megadeth, as well as his current work in Kings of Thrash.

At one point during this conversation, Young is asked if Kings of Thrash have received any feedback from anyone associated with Megadeth.

While Young ultimately says no, he also takes the opportunity to throw a jab at Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine. In responding to that question, Young specifically mentions the following:

“They don’t play those songs because they can’t play those songs, he can’t play or sing them. I’m not being a dick. It’s just a fact. He can barely play and sing the stuff that they’re doing, the same ten songs every night.”

Per the ex-Megadeth guitarist, he believes that “he” (who is likely Mustaine, given that he plays guitar and sings for the band), can “barely” play/sing the band’s earlier material. What do you make of Young’s claims? Have you noticed that Megadeth doesn’t play much of their older material?

When it comes to other news involving Mustaine, he has been very vocal lately shit-talking Metallica. He has expressed that his influence on the band runs deep and that they’re “afraid” to tour with Megadeth. You can learn more about each of these stories by following their respective links below.
