Deftones have been the perennial “cool” nu-metal band for a long time.
It’s not hard to see why. The band’s ability to bounce between the ultra-heavy and moments of pure beauty and power has captured the attention of all walks of life.
So it shouldn’t be all too surprising that prominent fashion house Marc Jacobs has tapped the band to do a huge collab for their Heaven line. The brand took to Instagram today to make the announcement, writing that the line has been developed in tandem with both Heaven by Marc Jacobs and Florida brand Stray Rats.
In the post, it’s clear a lot of thought has been went into the pieces. Not only is frontman Chino Moreno himself modeling one of the pieces, but Dia De Los Deftones alum JPEGMAFIA also appears as a model in the grid. Turnstile drummer Daniel Fang also appears in the post too.
Garments include flips on classic Deftones designs, like the classic cheerleader shirt from the band’s early days remixed with both Heaven and Stray Rats branding. Other pieces get more cut n sew, with a torn-up sweater baring the words “I Will Sink Into You” from their song “Mascara.”
On the safer side, there’s a large print of the Around the Fur cover art on a plain black t-shirt, as well as what looks like a coach jacket and a White Pony crewneck.
For the more adventurous, there’s a sheer top with a bunch of various Deftones icons through their different eras, cropped ringer tees and more.
All that to say, we’re huge fans of this pairing. Heaven By Marc Jacobs has dialed into a very specific lane of nostalgia, calling references to 90s and 2000s trends and recontextualizing them into the current “Y2K” wave of fashion. For a band involvement, we can’t think of a better band to work with than Deftones, expanding the potential pool of people who can get down with one of the greatest to ever do it.
In addition, Deftones also announced a secret show in New York City on March 2nd, the day before the collab happens.
The line is set to come out this Friday, March 3rd. Check out the garments below as well as show info.
