Considering all of the genre’s history, what do you think the most quintessential metal album of all time is? Have an answer in mind? Well then, let’s see if it is the same album that Slipknot singer Corey Taylor is thinking of.

As part of a feature with Metal Hammer, Taylor was asked to name 10 records that have changed his life.

Throughout the feature, Taylor responds to a variety of prompts, such as “The first album he bought.” Among the prompts provided to him, there is, A kid asks me what metal is, I’d hand them a copy of….

In response to this, the Slipknot singer names what he considers the quintessential metal album to be.

And that record is none other than… Metallica‘s Master of Puppets. Speaking about that album, Taylor shares the following:

“Bar none, this is the quintessential metal album. Metallica have melody and ferocious riffs in abundance and every riff, every vocal, every drum beat, every performance, every second of that album is fucking perfect.

“Top to bottom, it is probably in my top two albums ever made.”

Master of Puppets is easily one of the greatest metal albums of all time, but do you think it is THE quintessential metal album of all time?
