A Swedish pop star by the name of Zara Larsson caught some flack recently for rocking a dress featuring imagery of Burzum.
As reported by Blabbermouth, Larsson recently attended an award show where she wore a dress featuring designs from several different metal bands. Among the bands represented on the dress, there was Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, and Burzum, and it is the latter for which Larsson has received criticism over.
Burzum was a black metal band founded by white supremacist Varg Vikernes. Vikernes has been vocal about his bigoted and hateful beliefs for many years; the ex-Burzum frontman is a vlogger, and among his videos, he has expressed anti-Semitic beliefs, and back in 2013, French authorities charged him with racial hatred.
Vikernes is also a murderer (having killed the late Mayhem guitarist Euronymous); he was also responsible for several church burnings that took place in Norway during the early ’90s.
In a statement pertaining to her dress, Larsson says that she was not aware of Burzum’s connection to Vikernes (nor was she aware of his beliefs). Per a message she wrote to Aftonbladet, Larsson shares (as transcribed by Blabbermouth):
“Oopsie, had no idea. I just thought my clothes looked cool.”
The Swedish pop star goes on to add: “It was unfortunate.”
Larsson also stresses that she was not flat out wearing Burzum merchandise, but a dress that was designed for her:
“To clarify, I wasn’t wearing their merchandise, I was wearing Raf Simons (with a print of them, I suppose).”
You can check out a video involving Zara Larsson below that features her dress with the Burzum design on it. What do you make of this whole incident involving the Swedish pop star?
Another pop star who has rocked clothing featuring metal bands is Billie Eilish.
