As one of the most iconic works of rock music, Pink Floyd’s 1973 studio album The Dark Side of the Moon celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

The Dark Side of the Moon is an extraordinary work of technical rock and roll; riveting and psychedelic from beginning to end, this record has had a tremendous impact on the worlds of rock and metal. Considered by many one of the greatest albums ever made, there is much to celebrate about this record, and it is surreal to see it turn 50.

However, there are some folks who have taken issue with the celebration of Dark Side of the Moon – specifically, they have taken issue with a new logo that has been uploaded to Pink Floyd’s social media.

So what is it about this logo that has gotten these people in such a fit? Well, this newly designed logo takes the prism imagery from the 1973 album cover, as well as the cover’s iconic rainbow, and places them together in a new form (while highlighting the number “50”). Here is that logo:

Again, just a fresh touch-up and reimagining of the original 1973 Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon album cover. Nothing that is really all that different – just imagery that was already present 50 years ago.

With that in mind… there are some folks who think the band is actually leaning into representing an LGBTQIA+ flag reference (when again, they are just showing off the iconic rainbow imagery from their album cover). These folks have taken to the comments and have gone off on the band for going “woke.”

The comments from these people are… illuminating, to say the least. Here is but a small taste of those comments:

So yeah… these Pink Floyd “fans” seem to not be aware that the original cover featured that rainbow 50 years ago.

However, a lot of folks have poured into the comments to poke fun at and call out these commenters. You can find a small example of such responses below. What does Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon mean to you?
