Tim Keller, the mayor of Albuquerque, New Mexico, loves metal. If you are a metalhead attending Testament or Anthrax shows in the city, there is a decent chance you may bump into him.

One of Keller’s favorite bands happens to be Soulfly, and as reported by Loudwire, during a recent stop on the band’s current tour, the mayor showed up to their show and hung out with them.

Per an Instagram post they uploaded to their account, Soulfly wrote the following caption:

“ALBUQUERQUE TONIGHT! MAYOR JUST GAVE US THE KEY 2 THE CITY”

However, in a different Instagram post that was uploaded after that initial one, Soulfly shared the following:

“He didn’t actually give us the 🔑 but we can confirm he was in the pit during the show😤 Legendary @mayorkeller”

You can find both of these posts below.

Also, prior to the band’s performance at that show, the mayor came out and introduced them. It is pretty cool to see how involved Tim Keller is within Albuquerque’s metal community; while there are some exceptions, you do not often hear metalhead politicians being so vocal about their passion for the genre.

You can find this video of the Albuquerque, New Mexico mayor introducing Soulfly below. Also below, you will find all the upcoming dates and locations associated with Soulfly’s current tour.
