A few weeks back, news broke about a David and Goliath-Esque lawsuit where a regular old human was taking the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, to task in court to the tune of a cool $56 billion lawsuit.

The “David” in this scenario is a guy named Richard Tornetta, who played drums in metal band Dawn Of Correction.

Tornetta is a Tesla shareholder who first began his legal battle against Musk in 2018. Interestingly, Tornetta isn’t looking to see any personal financial gain from the suit. Instead, he’s looking to strip Musk of a $56 billion Tesla pay package. A proverbial “fuck you” if you will.

Trent Reznor Thinks Elon Musk is an 'Embarrassment'

Per a Reuters explanation of the lawsuit:

“Tornetta’s lawsuit alleges Musk dictated the pay package’s terms to a board of directors beholden to the billionaire and claims it was then put to a vote of shareholders who were misled about the difficulty of reaching certain targets.

The disputed pay package allows Musk to buy 1% of Tesla’s stock at a deep discount each time escalating performance and financial targets are met; otherwise Musk gets nothing.

Tesla has hit 11 of the 12 targets as its value ballooned briefly to more than $1 trillion from $50 billion, according to court papers. Musk and the directors argue in court filings that the package kept Musk focused on Tesla during a difficult period and led to a 10-fold rise in the stock price.”

We’re not the sharpest tools in the shed, but we’re pretty sure that Tornetta’s big point here is that Musk set incredibly easy-to-achieve financial targets for Tesla, misled board members about how easy it would be to hit them, and in the process became the world’s richest man because he was able to buy a shit ton of Tesla stock at insanely discounted prices every time he met one of the financial targets.

So who cares, really? Good question. Honestly, we just think it’s cool that a member of our own tribe is standing up to one of the richest and most powerful men in the world. And upon a little YouTube digging, we were impressed with Tornetta’s chops, too.

His now-defunct band, Dawn of Correction, was formed in 2005 and performed up until 2009.

During the band’s career, they released one EP and one studio album; that EP is titled Swingin’ the Chain, and the studio album is titled Dead Hand Control.

You can watch a playthrough below of Tornetta playing the Dawn of Correction track ‘Shadows.’ Good luck to you in court sir, and keep on thrashing.
