Welcome back to The Pit’s Favorite Riffs, where we share five new killer metal songs that have recently come out and that we love! Here are the releases we covered from last week!

As always, our goal with this feature is to shine a light on more underground metal bands. This week, we are bringing you a nice variety of doom, black metal, and more. So without further ado, let’s jump into our top five picks for this week!

Ulthar – “Astranumeral Octave Chants”

Blending black and death metal, Ulthar creates music that exudes tremendous atmospheric horror. Between the wicked-sounding thrashing of instrumentation and Lovecraftian chills, “Astranumeral Octave Chants” knows how to get folks headbanging and creeped out.

bunsenburner – “Lights of Jupiter”

The one man-project known as bunsenburner is an intriguing force of jazzy doom/stoner metal. The intricate technicality of performances, such as what is heard in “Lights of Jupiter,” make for surreal experiences of atmosphere; elements of droning and melody are used to create varying sensations of stillness and movement, offering unique dualities of vibe.

Sewer Fiend – “Into Bottomless Blight-Filled Pools

Off of a new split with Plague Patrol, Sewer Fiend‘s “Into Bottomless Blight-Filled Pools” is a kick-ass blend of death and doom metal. The music comes across as if it is drenched in slime, providing an incredible aura of gross textures alongside the crushing flow of instrumentation.

Narrow Head – “Gearhead”

With their new single “Gearhead,” Narrow Head brings their fans yet another helping of aggressive rock. Through their blend of hard rock and grunge, the music of Narrow Head offers a fantastic presentation of intriguing technicality and sonic mood.

Veilburner – “Repulsed by the Light”

Combining death metal, grindcore, and other heavy styles, Veilburner is an astounding act of vicious-sounding metal that will drive mosh pits fucking wild. “Repulsed by the Light” is just a small example of the utterly relentless sonic chaos that the band is capable of creating.

Of course, this is but a small taste of the many awesome metal releases that are out today. What are some new metal songs/albums that you are listening to now or plan to check out over the course of this weekend?
