During a recent appearance on the YouTube show Hot Ones, actor Paul Dano talks about how a specific Nirvana song influenced his role in The Batman. The latest Batman film came out earlier this year, with Dano starring as one of Batman’s biggest villains – The Riddler.

While the film is brimming with cinematic quality, awesome action, and amazing performances, one of its other popular components happens to be the use of the Nirvana song “Something In The Way.” This is a song off of the band’s 1991 studio album Nevermind.

The host of Hot Ones asks Paul if this Nirvana song had any impact on his portrayal of The Riddler, to which Paul says it did!

Speaking about how the track influenced his role, Paul Dano shares the following (which has been transcribed by Louder):

Something In The Way is a great song and I listen to a lot of Nirvana. That chorus for me, was, like…Something In The Way…what are we all trying to get through? And I think it’s about the two sides of trauma, and one person had a little more resources to deal with their trauma — Bruce Wayne. And my guy just didn’t quite have the nurture but didn’t have the nature either, if we are being real.”
