If you grew up in the ’90s then you know that one of the most irresistibly catchy songs of the era is Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time.” The song is an absolute banger and it is impossible to not get up and dance while it is playing.
At one point during this interview, the interviewer makes a comment about the Crosses song “Vivien,” mentioning that its chorus sounds a little like Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time.”
Wildly enough, Chino does not deny the connection; he actually says that the chorus sounding like “Baby One More Time” is more of a “wink” to the iconic ’90s pop banger.
Here is exactly what Chino Moreno had to say about the matter:
“I think it may have been a slight wink. I think it’s funny how a lot of people are like, ‘Oh my god, did you hear this?’ And to me, I kinda just have a little smile about it. It’s one of those things where … yeah, I would just say it’s a possible little wink there.”
Chino is then asked if he was consciously referencing the pop song while creating the Crosses track, to which he says:
“Yeah, I’d say I embellished on a couple little things in there to give it that wink, yeah.”
That is fucking awesome! A good nostalgic throwback is always welcomed. Now it would be even cooler if Chino and Britney were to collaborate on a song together.
