As reported by the Daily Mail, a couple loathe the Christmas jam “Last Christmas” by Wham! so much that they are striving to raise funds in order to buy the rights to the song.

That might read a little odd at first – if the couple hates the song so much, then why are they trying to buy the rights to it?

Well dear reader, they actually hate the song so much that they want to remove it from circulation and never hear it again!

At the time of this writing, per Daily Mail’s report, the couple has raised 50,000 euros; the rights to Wham!’s “Last Christmas” is owned by Warner Chappell Music UK, and has a value between $15 and $25 million.

Among the couple is Hannah, whose disdain for the song began 13 years ago. Per her, she was working in a cafe at the time and her boss would repeatedly play the song.

Hannah shares, “The owner of the cafe had planned for a super cosy holiday season and had his own made CD with a number of ‘hits’ on it.”

She continues, “He was only in now and then, so he didn’t fully appreciate the agony the rest of the staff felt when Last Christmas played for the 111th time of the working day.”

Per Hannah, the idea behind this fundraising project started  “last Christmas – pun not intended – when we asked friends how much they would be willing to pay never to hear the song again.”

Eventually, the couple decided to reach out to folks and see who would be willing to donate to their cause. They say that if they can hit $15 million, they can begin negotiating the rights for the song.

If they are able to obtain the rights, they plan to remove the song from streaming platforms and will dump the master recording in a nuclear waste site.

This is quite fucking interesting, to say the least. What do you make of the couple’s goal?
