It was a few months ago where we got news of the big When We Were Young Festival (which celebrated a great plethora of nostalgic pop punk acts); well folks, us metalheads are now getting our own massive nostalgic metal festival, this one celebrating nu metal.

Over on social media, several bands have been teasing an image for what is being called Sick New World. The acts involved with this promotion are System of a Down, Korn, Deftones, Incubus, Evanescence, and Chevelle.

As of recently, System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian hinted at a big announcement coming up for something happening in 2023. When we wrote about this, we speculated that this announcement could be related to some other past comments Serj made about his peers from the early aughts. Serj was asked who he considers to be significant bands of the early 2000s, to which he said the following:

Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Deftones – like those combination of bands, pretty much all from [the] Los Angeles area, were the heavy hitters of our peers coming up at that time. […] Those are some of the bands that really changed the sound, the scene, and what was going on when we were coming up.”

He then goes on to add the following: “It’s going to be interesting, because there’s going to be a chance to revisit that next year. That’ll be an announcement for a later time.”

Well folks, it looks like this massive nu metal festival is what Serj was hinting at! We are thrilled to learn more details and to hear who else may be involved! Below you can find the photo that the bands have been sharing. As of right now, the only official details we know of this is that this nu metal festival will be taking place on May 13th at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.

*Editor’s note: In the hours since this initial reporting, an official line-up has been announced (and it is massive). You can sign up now for pre-sale tickets over at sicknewworldfest.com – which will be starting Friday November 11th, at 10AM PST. Tickets will be on sale to the public come Friday at 2pm PST.
