At a recent Hatebreed concert that took place on November 5th, band frontman Jamey Jasta took part in kicking out a nazi who had attended the show. At one point during the band’s performance, the crowd begins to cry out to Jamey; at first, the singer appears to be caught off guard by these calls, but listens to what the audience has to say.
Jamey eventually learns that a nazi is in the crowd and the rest of the audience want them out. The Hatebreed singer then shares the following with the audience: “Listen, nazis aren’t welcome at Hatebreed shows. This is a fucking obvious thing. But you guys gotta police your own fucking shows, okay? In our day, I didn’t go to the singer of the fucking band. We handled our shit… the street. Nobody sees nothing. No fucking snitching, no cops. You got a problem? You handle it in the street, like men.”
Jamey then goes on to add, “There ya go. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. There’s no place for racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, transphobia – none of that shit. Everybody, life is hard enough. Everybody needs music. But I ain’t a fucking cop, so handle your own shit next time, alright? I love every one of you, but police your scene. It ain’t up to the bands.”
Good on Jamey to vocalize that Hatebreed shows are an inclusive place for fun and safety, and that there is no hate allowed. We all need to do our best to look out for our fellow metalheads and keep our places of enjoyment safe. You can find footage of Jamey working with the crowd to remove this nazi from the show below.
