During a recent fan Q&A, hosted by Metal Hammer, drummer Dave Lombardo is asked if he would be open to reuniting with Slayer. After decades of performing and creating music, Slayer retired in 2019. Since then, Dave Lombardo has been keeping quite active, playing in bands such as Testament and Dead Cross.
But, would he be open to a Slayer reunion? Perhaps a one-off show of sorts? Well during this fan Q&A, Dave is asked about such a potential reunion. When asked about the possibility of reuniting with the Slayer guys on stage, this is what Dave said:
“I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. But, yeah, I’d listen to whatever it is they had to say. That’s it, you can’t go any further than that.”
Well, while he thinks that may not happen, at least he is open to hearing from them (which means there could always be a possibility). During that same Q&A, Lombardo was asked about Kerry King’s new band – specifically, whether he would be open to joining the band if he was asked. In a prior interview, King has shared that this new band of his sounds like Slayer.
In response to this question, Lombardo shares the following: “I knew that was coming! I am, right now, working on too many other projects and I wouldn’t be able to accept. New Dead Cross, Mr. Bungle… the pandemic put a lot of stuff on hold, so we need to play some catch-up there. Besides that, he’s got Paul Bostaph, and I don’t think he would have the need to ask me.”
Dave has been really grinding away in both Testament and Dead Cross, but we would love to hear about some kind of Slayer reunion down the road. In other Slayer related news, have you see the AI generated music video for the band’s song “South of Heaven” yet?
