During a recent appearance on Pandora’s Metalverse Station, as a part of their “Tales From The Metalverse” segment, Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe shared one hell of a wild story. As many metalheads know, Randy used to be quite the partier back in the day.
At one point during this segment, Randy talks about touring with Hatebreed and chilling out on their tour bus back in the past. He then goes into a specific story that involves him playing around with a 4-wheeler the band used to have on them. This story in particular involves him driving around this 4-wheeler while drinking, with him eventually bumping into the police. Here is what Blythe shared regarding this experience:
“I got really hammered after our set [referring to a show the band just played], I guess, or maybe it was before our set. I don’t remember, I used to drink a lot. I was bothering [the Hatebreed crew] for the keys for the 4-wheeler. I’m like, ‘C’mon, let me take the 4-wheeler!’ They’re like, ‘No Randy, you’re drunk.’ And I just bothered them enough until they let me have the keys to the 4-wheeler.
“I was cruising around Ozzfest backstage, which is cool there – you’re allowed to do that. But then I kind of got bored with that and decided to go out into a nearby neighborhood. So I’m on Hatebreed’s 4-wheeler, cruising along with a Heineken – they had a cup holder in it – and I’m just puttin’ along drinking a Heineken. And then all of a sudden, I hear ‘Woo!’
“A cop decided I should not be drinking and driving in the neighborhood, I guess. So he starts [makes a gesture with his hand, as if talking into a radio]: ‘Pull over!’ And I’m like, ‘Oh God, I’m gonna get a DUI on an electric 4-wheeler.’ And suddenly I realize, ‘Wait a minute, I’m on a 4-wheeler, and he’s in his cop car.’ So, I just started going through someone’s yard! I’m like, ‘I’m gonna see which way goes this way!’ [I] take off [and] start going through backyards. The cop of course is circling the block, and I remember – it took a good five minutes to lose him.”
The Lamb of God frontman goes on to say that he fled back to where Ozzfest was taking place, parked the 4-wheeler, and hid in Hatebreed’s bus. And he never got caught! That is some fucking wild shit!
