Back in the late 1978, Black Sabbath toured with Van Halen as part of the European leg of their Never Say Die! tour. In reflecting on some past memories, via a recent interview with Revolver, Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne shares some positive words regarding the late Eddie Van Halen, but has some not so nice things to say about Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth.

Reflecting on the late Eddie Van Halen and sharing how he feels about David Lee Roth, Ozzy said: “[Eddie Van Halen] was such a great guy. They came to our local pub and it was good fun. But David Lee Roth, he’s lost a couple of nuts and bolts. When you meet him, it’s like, ‘What’s wrong with him?’ He’s like somewhere else, you know?”

We are not sure what the context could be regarding why Ozzy feels this way about David. What could David have done for Osbourne to have such an opinion of him?

In that same interview though, Ozzy speaks to the late Randy Rhoads and how he bumped heads with Eddie. Pertaining to the two guitarists, Ozzy says, “They were arch enemies. Randy didn’t have a lot to say about Eddie.”

Ozzy mentioned the two in another interview recently, sharing, “I heard recently that Eddie said he taught Randy all his licks … he never. To be honest, Randy didn’t have a nice thing to say about Eddie. Maybe they had a falling out or whatever, but they were rivals.”

What do you make of Ozzy’s opinion of David Lee Roth? And between Eddie and Randy, who is your favorite guitarist (or do you enjoy both equally)?

In other David Lee Roth news, did you know that Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has been wanting to duel him? And we mean duel in the context of a fencing match!
