When it comes to the band’s discography, one Avenged Sevenfold album that has received some real iffy response is that of their 2013 record Hail To The King. While there were many who enjoyed the record upon its release, there are those that felt quite the opposite.
Among the complaints made about Hail To The King, some complained and said that it was a glorified covers album. Among those who made such a compliant is that of Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn. Back in the day, upon this album’s release, Flynn wrote a lengthy Facebook post, congratulating Avenged Sevenfold for their “covers album,” and also wrote, “who knew that re-recording Metallica, Guns N Roses, and Megadeth songs could be such a worldwide hit!!??”
While Flynn shares that he is a fan of the band, his post also includes a great number of playful jabs directed at them (you can find that full post below).
But as of more recently, an A7x fan brought up Hail To The King over on Twitter and said that the album deserves a lot more respect. In particular, this is what they wrote:
“Hot take: The ‘Hail to the King’ album by @TheOfficialA7X is amazing and deserves respect. So many people chaff at the ‘simple riffs’ and classic hard rock sound, but the album has incredible complexity under the surface, if you really listen.”
This caught the attention of band frontman M. Shadows, who replied to the fan and said that the album is in fact, “on track to out-sell all the others…”
“Hail to the King (the song) streams more than double any other tracks we have weekly. The album is on track to out-sell all the others…yet a portion of the fan base acts like it was a failure by all accounts.”
That is pretty wild to learn. What are your feelings when it comes to this particular Avenged Sevenfold album? Do you think it has gotten shit on a bit much?
