At the time of this writing, we have been going on six years waiting for a new Avenged Sevenfold album. Over the course of these years, we have been getting small droplets of news from the band.
Back in February of 2021, band frontman M. Shadows shared, “We have pretty much 70 percent of the record done. We have some things we can’t finish right now ’cause of COVID — string players, et cetera.”
Come July of 2021, Shadows said, “[…] we’re booking shows for next summer, and the record will be out before then.” But summer 2022 has come and gone, and there was no record. However, that is not to say that there were not updates throughout 2022.
Shadows said that the album was 90% complete and features a 78-piece orchestra back in February of 2022. At one point, Shadows even spoke to how the upcoming new Avenged Sevenfold album is very much inspired by Kanye West. “We’re very influenced by Kanye West,” Shadows told Metal Hammer. “The thing about Kanye is that he is pulling from such great soul music. I didn’t grow up with that stuff — my dad listened to Boston and Alice Cooper, I didn’t get that taste of black music and old soul. So, diving deep into jazz musicians… we’re not trying to do a jazz record, but the chord changes and progressions are so eye-opening to us.”
Then, as of earlier this month, band drummer Brooks Wackerman alluded to the release date of the new album, saying we could expect it next year. Could there be a delay though? We think likely not, because as of very recently over on Brooks’ Instagram account, he shared a photo that features him and the band, with a caption that says “Done!”
2023 looks to be when we will finally see that new A7X album. After roughly seven years of waiting (by that point) – what are your expectations regarding this release?
