Post Malone’s love for metal is far from a secret at this point. Few mainstream celebrities in recent memory have repped the genre as hard, whether it’s when he’s wearing a Gatecreeper shirt in front of a sold out arena crowd of young impressionable teens, or the fact that homie has Dimebag’s face tattooed on his knuckle.

So yeah, in the short time since his ascendancy to stardom, the heavily-tattooed Soundcloud rapper has promoted heavy music as a rule, constantly repping both young and old acts every chance he gets. And while plenty of metalheads might not care for his music, and in keeping with the metal way of things have rejected him outright for making melodic hip-hop and pop rather than brutal goregrind, it’s undeniable that the dude has turned on a ton of young kinds to this thing we all love so dearly.

So, it really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that over the weekend at the Rock In Rio festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Post was front and center during Iron Maiden‘s set. How do we know? Drum prodigy Mike Portnoy, who was there ripping a gig with Metal Allegiance, posted a gleeful photo to his Instagram after he bumped into Post Malone while watching Maiden in the pit. As much as we’d love to imagine that the pop star flew over to Brazil JUST to see Maiden, he was there as a headliner of the festival. Per Portnoy:

“This pic deserves its own post as it’s so cool, random and unexpected…pretty crazy to be in the artist pit at Rock In Rio watching Iron Maiden and looking over my shoulder to see Post Malone rocking out next to me! I always figured he was a cool dude when I saw his knuckle tats paying tribute to misc dead rockers (Dimebag, Cobain, Lennon, Harrison, SRV, etc).”
