Jinjer have had a lot on their hands over the course of this year; back in March, pertaining to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the band announced that they would be putting their music career on hold in order to return to their country and help out its citizens however they could.

After several months, the band eventually was able to tour again (they will even be making their way to North America soon). Via a recent conversation with Metal Hammer, Jinjer singer Tatiana Shmailyuk spoke to a variety of subjects (such as the war taking place in Ukraine, the band’s music, and more).

At one point during the conversation, Tatiana speaks to herself being a “gateway artist” (in the context of her being a woman who screams in a metal band). For some younger non-men metalheads out there, Tatiana is serving as their introduction to a whole new world of art and music. Speaking to women screaming in metal, Tatiana shares the following:

“It’s a surprise to me that people still are impressed that women can scream. When I was an 18-year-old girl with no internet, I knew there was a band called Holy Moses [German thrash metallers] with a female on the vocals who did crazy stuff. Maybe we impress the younger generation, but the older generation already knew. Sometimes I’m annoyed, but then you say, ‘OK, well, I didn’t see a hummingbird until I was 35 years old.’ It’s always a right time to discover new stuff. It’s great that screaming women are a phenomenon.”

Along with the many incredibly talented female and non-men metal vocalists out there, Tatiana is a truly brilliant talent! We are super excited to see the band when they come to North America soon. Below we have included all the upcoming dates and locations associated with this tour.
