From 1981 to 1982, Ron McGovney was the bassist for Metallica; while he would eventually be replaced by the late Cliff Burton, McGovney was the original bassist for Metallica. McGovney has gone on to play in other acts since leaving the band, but he seems to remember those days in Metallica well – well enough to call out ex-band guitarist Dave Mustaine.

Per a recent interview that took place with Classic Rock, Mustaine shared that he was the “alpha male” between him, James Hetfield, and Lars Ulrich back in the day. This is the exact quote Dave gave:

“Oh no. I am clearly the alpha male between the three of us. Why did I have to do everything when I was in the band? Why did they always ask me talk to the promoters and collect the cash? Why was I the one who had to do the fighting? Why did I have to talk in between songs?”

Along with The Pit, many music publications covered this story; it was over on the Twitter post of Revolver’s coverage of this story where McGovney got involved. Commenting on the tweet from Revolver, the ex-band bassist replied and said the following:

“Dave talked to the promoters? Collected the cash? James didn’t play guitar before Metallica? That’s not how I remember those days. Just the opposite actually.”

From these comments, it seems that Ron is calling out Dave on some bs. What do you think? Do you stand with Dave Mustaine? Or do you think Dave could possibly be blowing things out of proportion?

In other news related to Mustaine, Megadeth are currently on the road right now as a supporting act for Five Finger Death Punch. If you are interested in seeing the band live, you can find all the upcoming dates and locations associated with this current tour below.
